{"id":354,"date":"2025-07-22T14:52:00","date_gmt":"2025-07-22T13:52:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/staff.nhslothian.scot\/ahp\/about-ahp-practice-education\/"},"modified":"2025-07-22T14:53:41","modified_gmt":"2025-07-22T13:53:41","slug":"about-ahp-practice-education","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/staff.nhslothian.scot\/ahp\/home\/about-ahp-practice-education\/","title":{"rendered":"About AHP Practice Education"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-light-accent-plum-background-color has-background\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Allied Health Professions (AHP) Practice Education Leads (PELs) are in post to support staff and students from all AHPs.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>This includes Art Psychotherapies, Diagnostic Radiography, Dietetics, Occupational Therapy,&nbsp;Orthoptics, Paramedicine, Physiotherapy, Podiatry,\u202f Prosthetics &amp; Orthotics, Speech and Language Therapy and Therapeutic Radiography.\u202f\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-regular-font-size\">The PELs support the delivery of a national workplan and work with a wide range of AHPs from health care support workers to senior AHP leads and will help them to develop and access a range of work-based learning opportunities. They also link closely with University Tutors to support Practice Educator Training and to maintain high quality Practice Placement experiences for AHP students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-standard-black-color has-light-accent-plum-background-color has-text-color has-background has-link-color wp-elements-a1711f32c115475fb6caeb2c133fe1ad\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-standard-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-dff3bb86578fffeecd75e344f654e69f\">Some of the work that we do includes:&nbsp;<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Working with the\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/staff.nhslothian.scot\/ahp\/ahp-practice-placement\/\">Lothian AHP Practice Based Learning Network<\/a>&nbsp;to explore and develop solutions to the issues affecting provision of student placements including implementation of the Practice Placement Agreements (PPA).&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Working with\u202fstaff to implement\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/staff.nhslothian.scot\/ahp\/support-and-supervision\/\">Lothian AHP Support and Supervision Guidance<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Raising awareness of the range of resources and support available across the \u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/staff.nhslothian.scot\/ahp\/nmahp-development-framework\/\">NMAHP Development Framework<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Facilitating sharing of good practice between departments and disciplines.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Contributing to national work streams that the PEL programme is developing across Scotland.&nbsp;To find out about some NES initiatives check out the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/learn.nes.nhs.scot\/29104\/allied-health-professions-ahp-learning-site\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">AHP Learning Site<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Working closely with the AHP Director to develop NHS Lothian as a learning organisation for AHP staff.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:20%\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nes.scot.nhs.uk\/our-work\/ahp-practice-education\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"316\" height=\"316\" src=\"https:\/\/staff.nhslothian.scot\/ahp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/19\/2025\/07\/image.png\" alt=\"image\" class=\"wp-image-2324\" style=\"width:243px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/staff.nhslothian.scot\/ahp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/19\/2025\/07\/image.png 316w, https:\/\/staff.nhslothian.scot\/ahp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/19\/2025\/07\/image-300x300.png 300w, https:\/\/staff.nhslothian.scot\/ahp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/19\/2025\/07\/image-150x150.png 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 316px) 100vw, 316px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:80%\">\n<p class=\"has-regular-font-size\">We are part of a national network of PELs in all NHS Boards across Scotland. The AHP Practice Education team at NES provide strategic and professional leadership, coordination and support for the development and enhancement of practice-based education. Together we develop resources and networks, enhancing the quality and range of practice-based learning for Practice Educators, pre-registration students and other learners, helping them to provide safe, effective, person-centered quality care. The overarching aim of the programme is to encourage a sustainable learning environment which supports AHP staff and student development.&nbsp;<a
