All healthcare workers will also receive pre-course learning prior to the study day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The study day covers theory and training for central venous device access, maintenance, and care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Devices covered are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Central Venous Catheters<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Skin-tunnelled Central Venous Catheters<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PICC lines<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Totally Implanted Vascular Access Devices<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Prior to the study day, Candidates should have undertaken an Intravenous Therapy and Infusion device programme and competencies. Pre-course material is also available on the NHSL intranet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Intended Audience<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>NHS Lothian Registered adult Nurses, District Nurse and Allied health professionals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Midlines<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Staff will be guided and supported through relevant knowledge and simulated clinical skills so that they can safely and effectively care for patients with midlines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Intended Audience<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>NHS Lothian Registered adult Nurses, District Nurse and Allied health professionals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Learning Outcomes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Apply appropriate anatomy and physiology to understand the placing of midlines.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provide a rationale for use of midlines over alternatives.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Determine which medications are appropriate for use with midlines and which are contra-indicated.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Care for and maintain the midline, stabilisation device, needle-free device and dressing.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Safely remove a midline as per NHSL CVAD guidelines.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For more information contact: <a href=\"mailto:loth.clinicalskillstraining@nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk\">loth.clinicalskillstraining@nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Central Venous Access Devices (CVAD) course is delivered in person at a local education centre.
