Core immunisation training covers face-to-face immunisation theory and practical sessions to enable safe vaccine administration. Separate sessions are available for registered and non-registered (HCSW) healthcare workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Intended Audience<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Registered or non-registered practitioners who are new to vaccinating or who have not attended this session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Learning Outcomes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The aim of this training is to meet NHS Education Scotland (NES) National Minimum Standards for Immunisation Training by preparing registered or non-registered practitioners to undertake all aspects of vaccination and immunisation within their job role.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Health protection Scotland and NHS Education for Scotland recommend that all healthcare professional involved in immunisation should be able to demonstrate competence, current evidence-based knowledge and understanding of the areas listed below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. The aims of immunisation: national policy and schedules<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. The immune system and how vaccines work<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Vaccine preventable diseases<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Different types of vaccines used & their composition<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. Current issues and controversies regarding immunisation<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  6. Communicating with parents and patients<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  7. Legal aspects of vaccination<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  8. Storage and handling of vaccines<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  9. Correct administration of vaccines<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  10. Anaphylaxis and other adverse events<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  11. Documentation, record keeping and reporting<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  12. Strategies for improving immunisation rates.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
