It is a blended course which requires directed learning (pre reading workbook) before attending a practical session. Completion of the course requires a competency to be completed in the clinical area after the practical session has been attended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Pre-Requisites<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Registered staff (staff nurses and ODPs) who work in an area (out with critical care) where arterial lines are regularly used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Intended Audience<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>NHS Lothian Band 5 and above registered staff from specific clinical areas who regularly use arterial lines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Learning Outcomes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Effectively assess and manage the clinical risks associated with arterial lines and the use of the flush system and monitoring equipment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Demonstrate the ability to competently care for the patient during arterial line insertion; zeroing the line; sampling from the line; safe removal<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Demonstrate safe ANTT practice with arterial line management<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Demonstrate an understanding of the complications associated with arterial line management<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Identify good practice principles for the safe and effective care of a patient with an arterial line For more information contact: <a href=\"mailto:loth.clinicalskillstraining@nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk\">loth.clinicalskillstraining@nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This course covers the safe management of arterial lines in specific NHS Lothian clinical areas.
