{"id":410,"date":"2025-01-29T09:58:48","date_gmt":"2025-01-29T09:58:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/staff.nhslothian.scot\/cet\/cardiology\/"},"modified":"2025-06-25T08:36:17","modified_gmt":"2025-06-25T07:36:17","slug":"cardiology","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/staff.nhslothian.scot\/cet\/specialist-courses\/cardiology\/","title":{"rendered":"Cardiology"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Cardiology Nursing<\/strong>&nbsp;focuses on&nbsp;developing&nbsp;clinical&nbsp;knowledge and skills relating to&nbsp;Acute Coronary Syndrome and using&nbsp;a blended delivery:&nbsp;self-directed learning via MS Teams&nbsp;is&nbsp;followed by consolidation&nbsp;in&nbsp;the&nbsp;classroom with&nbsp;presentations, discussion, workshops,&nbsp;expert speakers as well as experiential visits to various cardiology departments.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Day 1 &#8211; Cardiac anatomy, physiology and electrophysiology<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Day 2 &#8211; Assessment of the patient with chest pain and cardiac&nbsp;investigations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Day 3 &#8211; Management of the patient with Acute Coronary Syndrome<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Day 4 &#8211; Arrhythmias, Patient Support Services<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Throughout the course&nbsp;staff maintain an evidence of learning portfolio and complete clinical competencies. It concludes with a half-day based in&nbsp;the simulation suite at&nbsp;St John&#8217;s hospital where candidates participate in&nbsp;3&nbsp;Vivas (assessed)&nbsp;and a facilitated simulation scenario (peer-learning, not assessed).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Application criteria<\/strong>:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Charge Nurse&nbsp;authorised.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Minimum 18&nbsp;months in post<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Current substantive&nbsp;role&nbsp;caring for cardiology patients.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Agreement to attend all 4.5 days.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The course runs in Spring and Autumn.
