{"id":423,"date":"2025-01-29T09:58:48","date_gmt":"2025-01-29T09:58:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/staff.nhslothian.scot\/cet\/comet\/"},"modified":"2025-06-24T08:27:38","modified_gmt":"2025-06-24T07:27:38","slug":"comet","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/staff.nhslothian.scot\/cet\/registered-midwives\/comet\/","title":{"rendered":"COMET"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Maternity Community Emergencies<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Maternity Community Emergencies study day is also known as COMET.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To provide the opportunity for community midwives to update and develop their skills and knowledge of caring for women should an obstetric emergency occur in the community settings such as home births.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The format of the day will include small group teaching using case studies and simulation based on real life scenarios. Topics to be covered include: effective inter-professional communication, APH, PPH, Shoulder dystocia, breech birth, cord prolapse, assessment &amp; recognition of a deteriorating\/sick woman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The training is a blended approach of virtual pre-course reading followed by a practical session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Target staff group<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Community Midwives<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Learning outcomes<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Utilise problem solving approaches to dealing with obstetric emergencies in community settings<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Practice skills and manoeuvres, in a simulated environment, to optimise timely intervention when specific emergency situations occur.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Discuss importance of clear communication and documentation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Identify best course of action to ensure appropriate help is requested &amp; emergency transfer to hospital is carried out as necessary<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For more information contact <a href=\"mailto:loth.clinicalskillstraining@nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk\">loth.clinicalskillstraining@nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Maternity Community Emergencies The Maternity Community Emergencies study day is also known as COMET.
