Programme for 2025/2026

Series of stand-alone webinars developed and delivered by LILLY, with local involvement from NHS Specialists will run from September 2025 through to June 2026.

These webinars are non-promotional and will cover a variety of topics. The intended audience is GPs, Practice Nurses and Practice based Pharmacists in Primary Care, however they are open to anyone caring for patients with diabetes.​

Modular Rolling Programme

Tuesday 2nd September 2025 ‘Identifying risk, ongoing monitoring & standard care processes for adults with Type 2 Diabetes’ Please note this session will be held at 12pm-1pm

  • To be confident in identifying those people who are at risk of type 2 diabetes
  • To be confident in determining an accurate diagnosis of type 2 diabetes
  • To be aware of the standards of care for type 2 diabetes
  • To identify the various methods required for the monitoring of type 2 diabetes

Tuesday 4th November 2025 ‘The Self-Care Challenge; supporting people with long term conditions

  • To understand how adopting a patient-centered approach can support people with effective self-management and change
  • To explore the potential conversational structure, language, and tools that promote motivation, self-management and change
  • To understand the Stages of Change model
  • To reflect on the best way to support patients with long-term conditions

Wednesday 17th December 2025 ‘Therapy Choices for adults with Type 2 Diabetes (Part A)

  • Discuss the considerations when choosing a treatment to meet the needs and circumstances of individual adult patients with type 2 diabetes
  • Review the standard oral therapies used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes: metformin, sulphonylureas, thiazolidinediones, DPP-4 inhibitors, SGLT2 inhibitors and oral GLP-1 RAs
  • Understand the sites of action for the different oral drug classes and be aware of the prescribing considerations including renal function and hepatic disease
  • Recognise the need to consider therapy specific factors and the individual patient’s circumstances when choosing between different oral therapies

Tuesday 20th January 2026 ‘Therapy Choices for adults with Type 2 Diabetes (Part B)’

  • Discuss the considerations when choosing a treatment to meet the needs and circumstances of individual adult patients with type 2 diabetes

Tuesday 24th March 2026 ‘Understanding Incretin Hormones & their role in the management of adults with Type 2 Diabetes’

  • To understand the role of the incretin hormones, native GLP-1 and GIP, in humans
  • To discuss the effects of incretin-based therapy in people with T2D and its position in the treatment pathway
  • To review important considerations of risk management in diabetes

Wednesday 29th April 2026 ‘Why Weight Matters in Type 2 Diabetes’

  • To understand the links between weight & Type 2 diabetes and the impact of Type 2 Diabetes on people living with overweight/obesity
  • To review the pathophysiology of Type 2 diabetes in people living with overweight and obesity
  • To recognise the importance and challenges of weight management in people with Type 2 Diabetes
  • To explore ways to support people in achieving their treatment and weight management goals

  • Identify malnutrition risk factors and basic nutrition guidelines for patients prescribed incretin therapies
  • Understand the impact of dietary intake and physical activity on body composition during treatment with incretin therapy
  • Evaluate the importance of nutrient – dense diets alongside incretin therapies
  • Discuss common nutrition concerns associated with using incretin therapies to manage metabolic disease
