Webinars

Programme for 2024/2025

Series of stand-alone webinars developed and delivered by LILLY, with local involvement from NHS specialists will run from September 2024 through to July 2025.

These webinars are non-promotional and will cover a variety of topics. The intended audience is GPs, Practice Nurses and Practice based Pharmacists in Primary Care, however they are open to anyone caring for patients with diabetes.​

Tuesday 10th September 2024 ‘Overview of T2 diabetes’

  • To review the pathophysiology of type 2 diabetes and diabetes remission
  • To explore the impact of therapeutic inertia on patient outcomes and the importance of early treatment optimisation using an individualised approach
  • To explore HbA1c considerations
  • To recognise the differences between compliance, adherence and concordance and to understand the features of concordant patient consultations

Wednesday 16th October 2024 ‘Identifying risk & clinical review of T2D: detection, diagnosis & standard care processes’

  • To be confident in identifying those people who are at risk of
    type 2 diabetes
  • To be confident in determining an accurate diagnosis of type 2 diabetes
  • To be aware of the standards of care for type 2 diabetes
  • To identify the various methods required for the monitoring of
    type 2 diabetes

Thursday 28th November 2024 ‘Introducing CRM: the relationship between cardiovascular, renal and metabolic systems in type 2 diabetes’

  • Explore the interconnected relationship between conditions of the CRM system across type 2 diabetes
  • Understand the wider impact and increased risks associated with having one or more conditions affecting the CRM system
  • Consider the unmet clinical need related to CRM morbidity and mortality in patients with type 2 diabetes
  • Understand how clinical guidance for type 2 diabetes has been updated to reflect the results of positive cardiovascular outcome trials
  • Reflect on the overall goals of treatment and individualised care for patients with type 2 diabetes

Tuesday 7th January 2025 ‘Oral therapies for patients with T2 diabetes (part 1)’

  • Discuss the considerations when choosing a treatment to meet the needs and circumstances of individual adult patients with type 2 diabetes
  • Review the standard oral therapies used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes: metformin, sulphonylureas, thiazolidinediones, DPP-4 inhibitors, SGLT2 inhibitors and oral GLP-1 RAs
  • Understand the sites of action for the different oral drug classes and be aware of the prescribing considerations including renal function and hepatic disease
  • Recognise the need to consider therapy specific factors and the individual patient’s circumstances when choosing between different oral therapies
