Pressure Ulcer Prevention and Management
Our Pressure Ulcer Prevention Study Day is currently running every 2nd month.

Course content:
- Pressure ulcer development and grading
- How to identify at risk patients
- Pressure ulcer prevention:
SSKIN bundle and care rounding
Skin assessment including PU grading
Surfaces including Mattresses and cushions
Postural management
Continence management and moisture lesions
Nutrition

Advanced Wound Management
Leg Ulcer Assessment and Management
Suitable for Registered Nurses
Running 4 times a year, book on eESS under “LO: Leg Ulcer Assessment and Management”.
Staff must attend all 3 virtual sessions and 1 practical session to complete the course.
Requirements:
Work in an area where leg ulcers are seen on a regular basis
Prior to attending course have read:
- SIGN 120 Guidelines – Management of Chronic Venous Leg Ulcers http://www.sign.ac.uk/pdf/sign120.pdf
- Consensus Recommendations – Venous Leg Ulcer Management (2015)
- Be aware of NHS Lothian Leg Ulcer competencies and identified a mentor to support completion after the day
Course Content:
- Introduction and aetiology of leg ulcers
- Assessment techniques
- Management options – bandaging, compression etc
- Cleansing and Skin care
- Bandaging workshops – Hero2 (H&R) and Coban2(3M)
