information on which department I could take KIT days&#8230;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Line manager didn\u2019t know how to pay me for KIT days so I ended up doing two unpaid.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>How do you actually claim for kit days.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Read more on our <a href=\"https:\/\/staff.nhslothian.scot\/maternitysupport\/real-voices-staff-experiences\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Real Voices: Staff Experiences page<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What is expected of managers?<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Managers should:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Support your employee\u2019s request for a&nbsp;KIT day&nbsp;where possible as they&nbsp;can add value and help prepare&nbsp;and support&nbsp;your employee&nbsp;for an&nbsp;easier return to work.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Have an open and supportive conversation with the employee about what they want from KIT days.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Make sure the work offered is meaningful and&nbsp;appropriate.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Managers must carry out a risk assessment for any breastfeeding employee&nbsp;and breastfeeding facilities must be provided.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Keep workloads light and manageable.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Check in with the employee during the day.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ensure the employee is paid correctly for any KIT days worked&nbsp;and seek help from payroll if unsure.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Log KIT days accurately\u00a0on\u00a0payroll.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ensure that arrangements are in place for them to receive the time back in lieu&nbsp;they&#8217;re&nbsp;entitled&nbsp;to once&nbsp;they return to work.\u202f&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Be flexible where possible, recognising that childcare, feeding, and recovery may&nbsp;impact&nbsp;availability.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Support their confidence about returning to work.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Good practice <\/strong>to support employees<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Agree&nbsp;KIT day&nbsp;plans in advance.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Check in on the employee\u2019s comfort and needs during the day.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Avoid overwhelming them with large workloads or major updates&nbsp;\u2013 share updates gradually, not all at once.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Use the opportunity to support a smoother, more confident return to work.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If declining a&nbsp;KIT day, you must have a valid reason, explaining the reasons for doing so clearly to your employee&nbsp;and&nbsp;ensuring that alternative solutions have been explored.&nbsp;&nbsp;If in doubt, please seek advice from&nbsp;HR.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Be supportive,&nbsp;flexible&nbsp;and understanding if a&nbsp;KIT day&nbsp;is cancelled.&nbsp;&nbsp;Childcare, feeding and other demands may&nbsp;impact&nbsp;availability.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How is pay&nbsp;or days in lieu recorded for KIT days?&nbsp;<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>KIT Days&nbsp;worked should be uploaded to&nbsp;eESS.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If a&nbsp;KIT day&nbsp;is worked in the full pay period,&nbsp;your&nbsp;employee will receive a day of paid leave in lieu once they have returned to work.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If a&nbsp;KIT day&nbsp;is worked on a day of leave in the half-pay period,&nbsp;your&nbsp;employee will receive a half day of paid leave in lieu once they have returned to work.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If a KIT Day is worked after the full pay and half day period,\u00a0your employee\u00a0will receive a full day of paid leave.
