About AHP Practice Education

The Allied Health Professions (AHP) Practice Education Leads (PELs) are in post to support staff and students from all AHPs.

This includes Art Psychotherapies, Diagnostic Radiography, Dietetics, Occupational Therapy, Orthoptics, Paramedicine, Physiotherapy, Podiatry,  Prosthetics & Orthotics, Speech and Language Therapy and Therapeutic Radiography.

The PELs support the delivery of a national workplan and work with a wide range of AHPs from health care support workers to senior AHP leads and will help them to develop and access a range of work-based learning opportunities. They also link closely with University Tutors to support Practice Educator Training and to maintain high quality Practice Placement experiences for AHP students.

We are part of a national network of PELs in all NHS Boards across Scotland. The AHP Practice Education team at NES provide strategic and professional leadership, coordination and support for the development and enhancement of practice-based education. Together we develop resources and networks, enhancing the quality and range of practice-based learning for Practice Educators, pre-registration students and other learners, helping them to provide safe, effective, person-centered quality care. The overarching aim of the programme is to encourage a sustainable learning environment which supports AHP staff and student development. Learn more about the programme on the NES Website.
