Young Scotland Programme

Imran Hafeez

The NHS Lothian (NHSL) staff Youth Network were delighted to support Imran Hafeez in his role as co-chair to attend Young Scotland Programme 2021. This is a residential event attended by many staff from a range of employers who benefit from a course designed to stimulate new thinking whilst developing communication and confidence. The event comprises presentations by participants, guest speakers, and group-based challenges.

Congratulations to Imran in gaining runner up in the individual award of ‘Scotland Young Thinker of the Year 2021’ – well done!

“When the Workforce Development Team advertised this unique programme involving public speaking challenges, shared learning with young staff from other organisations, and testimonies from renowned leaders’, I was instantly motivated to get involved.  All 28 delegates were tasked with; writing an argument paper of their choice to present for 6 minutes, talking about a topic of their choice unscripted for 90 seconds, and working in a group to create a 6-minute presentation involving role play. Topics for the argument papers ranged from; environmental and international issues, gender equality, wellbeing and mindfulness, employment, and wider health and society. Although it was a challenging 3 days, I am thrilled to have represented NHSL winning the runners’ up award, and grateful to the Youth Network for funding and supporting me with this. I have also been invited back by the Young Programme team to facilitate future programmes, so I hope to continue building on my skills while supporting other young leaders through the programme and the NHSL Youth Network.”
