National Progression Award

National Progression Award (NPA): Skills for Practice
Scottish Credit Qualification Framework (SCQF) Level 6

9 Study Days over 12 weeks
One week block at College

(Monday-Friday 0900-1600 Sighthill Campus)

Four additional study days at an NHS Lothian training facility (one study day per week 0900-1600)

Personal Study: approximately 20 hours over the course.

Units of study

The award consists of three units:

  • Person Centred Approach to Care
  • Safe Practice in Care
  • Practical Caring Skills

Assessments

To evidence the course outcomes for the PDA students must undertake the following:

  • Completion of NPA Record of Learning and competencies relevant to their clinical area
  • 6 extended answer questions
  • Case study and questions relevant to clinical areas
  • A reflective account evaluating your communication skills when supporting others (750-1000 words)

There will be an expectation that staff participating in the course will be supervised/ mentored in practice and that work based competences will be area specific and existing competences can be utilised with the course providing the underpinning knowledge.

Learning outcomes and objectives are fairly wide that are an education outlines which can be adapted to provide tailored education.
