A blended approach will be used to cover all aspects of Catheterisation. Staff will receive online pre-reading and resources prior to the practical workshop.
The learning outcomes are:
- Identify professional and legal issues in relation to catheterisation.
- Describe the anatomy and physiology and associated challenges for catheterisation.
- Discuss alternative options to managing continence in patients.
- Explain your rationale for deciding to catheterise and select an appropriate catheter and drainage, fixation system.
- Explain the purpose of the CAUTI bundle.
- Discuss the complications of catheterisation and subsequent management.
The practical workshop includes insertion and care of catheterisation models under the direct supervision of faculty.
Intended Audience
This course is for NHS Lothian Registered Nurses, Operating Department Practitioners and Band 4 Assistant Practitioners who have local governance arrangements.
