Obstetric Emergencies
This is also known as the PROMPT course (Practical Obstetric Multi-Professional Training).
This training day will support staff in developing and updating skills to care for women in emergency situations in the antenatal, intra-partum and postnatal periods. The course uses simulation in the clinical environment to help participants gain experience of managing a range of obstetric emergencies.
Target staff group
Midwife, obstetrician, anaesthetist, maternity support worker or ODP working in Women’s Services in NHS Lothian across sites (RIE and SJH). Community midwives are recommended to do the COMET course (Community Obstetric Emergencies).
Learning outcomes
- Refresh and enhance existing skills and knowledge relating to the management of a range of obstetric emergencies including: septic shock, major obstetric haemorrhage, eclampsia, shoulder dystocia, anaesthetic emergencies, maternal collapse and resuscitation.
Identify key components of good communication and team working in order to deal effectively with emergency situations
