Gender Based Violence

This 1 day update on gender based violence and routine enquiry into domestic abuse aims to further enhance midwives knowledge around this emotive subject and also covers human trafficking and trauma informed practice.

Target staff group

Community midwives and hospital based midwives in NHS Lothian who have completed the initial training day

This interactive study day includes pre-course learning, in person lectures and videos, activities and discussions with colleagues in a safe space.

Learning outcomes

  • Explore further the context and rationale for gender based violence
  • Discuss trauma informed practices
  • Understand midwives position of competent not expert
  • Understand women want to be heard, not fixed.
  • Develop your role as a health professional in relation to domestic abuse.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of impact of sexual violence on pregnant woman
  • Explore information about human trafficking and exploitation
