Care of a woman with epidural analgesia

Face to face (or on MST) an anaesthetist led training session for newly qualified midwives and new midwives to NHSL. Discussion and case studies of care of women receiving epidural analgesia.

Target staff group

All midwives working in acute setting

This study session requires completion of the epidural module prior to the face to face session and post course completion of epidural competencies.

Learning outcomes

  • Refresh knowledge on epidural safety
  • Understand recent changes in epidural care
  • Explore attitudes and support for women around epidurals
  • Discuss myths, consent, expectations and women’s empowerment
