The aim of the course is to introduce some clinical skills that have been identified as crucial for new midwives, to provide a point of contact and support from PEFs and clinical education team (both CET and ward/community based), to offer newly qualified staff a ‘safe’ space to reflect and learn during their first year, to provide a space for NQ staff to connect with their peers, to support and assist NQM to complete Flying Start requirements, to offer clinical supervision & reflective sessions, to provide opportunities for education and to meet other members of women’s services team and to develop critical thinking and encourage debate and discussion which supports their autonomous working.
Target staff group
all newly qualified midwives.
This study day comprises of face to face teaching and discussion.
Learning outcomes
- Participate in an introduction to some required clinical skills, the clinical skills passport and the clinical education team
- Discuss subjects that contribute to Flying Start and the role of an autonomous practitioner
