An introduction to the patient’s journey through having cancer. This course will look at the aetiology of cancer, as well as cancer treatments and interventions.
This is aimed at staff with an interest in cancer care and staff who are new to the Edinburgh Cancer Centre or new to treating patients with cancer.
The learning outcomes for the course are as follows.
By the end of the course, you will be able to-
- Describe the holistic needs of a patient with cancer
- Understand the development and risk factors for cancer
- Have a working knowledge of the cancer treatments available to patients
- Know where to signpost patients to for support, including for family and friends
- Understand the role of the MDT in supporting patients with cancer diagnoses
There is no assessment for this course, but it is a good foundation for any staff member working with cancer patients, regardless of the service area working in.
