Due to the nature of the services provided by NHS Lothian, staff are often required to work with patients and visitors who are in a distressed or disturbed condition, who are anxious or in pain or who have had previous traumatic experiences. There is an inherent risk of individuals becoming aggressive and/or violent in such situations.
NHS Lothian is committed to ensuring working conditions for staff are safe and does not view violence and aggression as an acceptable part of employment. Our staff have the right to work without the fear of assault or abuse: Management of Violence and Aggression Policy
The purpose of these policies is to enable NHS Lothian to meet its obligation to protect staff, as far as is reasonably practicable. To ensure that all staff are aware of their rights and responsibilities in relation to the prevention and management of violence and aggression.
To support these policies the Management of Aggression Team have developed a robust training package to help staff and managers reduce and manage the risk of aggression and violence effectively and safely.
It is important that staff read all the pre-course information sent to them regarding timings, venues and essential course requirements.
This has important information regarding your health and wellbeing, the training environment, e-Learning expectations and appropriate clothing and footwear. Failure to do so may result in you not being able to undertake training.
If there any issues prior to attending training, please contact the team on loth.managementaggression@nhs.scot
