This half study day is designed to provide Midwives with the theoretical and practical skills to undertake perineal repair safely, competently and within their sphere of practice.
Target staff group
All midwives working in acute or community setting who require perineal repair skills.
This half study day includes pre-course learning, in person lectures and videos and practical skills session.
Learning outcomes
- Outline the professional, legal and ethical implications of Perineal Repair.
- Explain the clinical procedure to be followed during repair of the perineum and know the referral mechanism should circumstances deviate out with the midwives sphere of competence.
- Describe the rationale behind the choice of suture material and the method of repair taught.
Demonstrate the ability to perform perineal repair safely and competently.
