This course is designed and delivered jointly between NHS Lothian and the Scottish Multiprofessional Maternity Development Programme (SMMDP).
The aim of the course is to support staff in community and hospital-based settings, to develop and update knowledge and skills in the ABC of neonatal resuscitation. This is a professional requirement for all midwives.
This interactive half study day includes pre-course learning, online lectures and competency assessed skill stations.
Target staff group
Registered nurse or midwife working within midwifery or neonatology in NHS Lothian. The course is also open to ambulance technicians and paramedics working for Scottish Ambulance Services. Medical staff who work within neonates or obstetrics are also welcome to apply.
Learning outcomes
- Refresh and update existing knowledge of the physiology of newborn resuscitation
- Refresh knowledge and skills of assessment of the infant requiring resuscitation at birth
- Develop and update knowledge and skills of the ABC approach to resuscitation of the newborn
