This course covers the safe and effective management of intravenous medicines and intravenous infusion devices in alignment with NHS Lothian safe use of medicines policy and procedures and NHSL Fluid Guidelines.
The course is 1.5 days and topics include the safe principles of intravenous practice, management of protocols on IV Gentamicin and IV Fluids replacement. Calculation workshops, case study examples and infusion device workshops. The summative assessment involves a calculation exam. Following successful completion of the course, registered staff should complete work-based competencies.
