Cardiology Nursing focuses on developing clinical knowledge and skills relating to Acute Coronary Syndrome and using a blended delivery: self-directed learning via MS Teams is followed by consolidation in the classroom with presentations, discussion, workshops, expert speakers as well as experiential visits to various cardiology departments.
- Day 1 – Cardiac anatomy, physiology and electrophysiology
- Day 2 – Assessment of the patient with chest pain and cardiac investigations
- Day 3 – Management of the patient with Acute Coronary Syndrome
- Day 4 – Arrhythmias, Patient Support Services
Throughout the course staff maintain an evidence of learning portfolio and complete clinical competencies. It concludes with a half-day based in the simulation suite at St John’s hospital where candidates participate in 3 Vivas (assessed) and a facilitated simulation scenario (peer-learning, not assessed).
Application criteria:
- Charge Nurse authorised.
- Minimum 18 months in post
- Current substantive role caring for cardiology patients.
- Agreement to attend all 4.5 days.
