Enhanced SACT Delivery (ESD)

This single study day builds upon the principles taught in the POSA (Principles of SACT administration) course and can only be attended once the POSA has been successfully completed and relevant assessments passed. Candidates should also be competent in oral, injection and SACT infusion prior to attending enhanced SACT delivery.  This course will take nurses from being proficient in SACT delivery to experts in SACT delivery and includes learning the skills of toxicity assessment as well as managing cancer emergencies if they emerge.

Enhanced SACT delivery will explore the principles of delivering SACT via a syringe bolus for nurses as well as completing SACT toxicity assessments. The remainder of the day will encompass simulation scenarios/workstations on management of side effects, hypersensitivity, emergencies and extravasation plus toxicity. The course is run face to face over a single day

The learning outcome for this course are as follows.

By the end of this course, you will be able to

  • Complete a toxicity assessment on a patient receiving SACT
  • Deliver SACT via the bolus route, both manually and via an infusion pump (if Plum 360 is in use).
  • Consolidate your previous learning into managing a patient receiving a complex treatment regimen experiencing issues throughout.

To evidence learning, participants are required to completed competency assessments in both bolus administration of SACT and SACT Toxicity assessments.
