Understanding Intersectionality

Aim of the session
To equip participants with the framework to recognise how multiple overlapping identities (like race, gender, class, and sexual orientation) interact to create unique experiences of discrimination and oppression.
What participants will gain from the session
By the end of the training, participants will be able to:
- Understand the concept of intersectionality.
- Understand how a person’s intersecting identities influence their health and wider experiences
- Understand the complex biases and prejudices individuals face, which often stem from the combination of their identities, rather than just one.
- Understand how to consider everything and anything that can marginalise people – gender, race, class, sexual orientation, physical ability, etc., in decision making and providing care
- Reflect on positionality, privilege and practice
- Provide information about further learning and resources
