Aim of the session 


To provide staff with improved knowledge, understanding and confidence about using NHS Lothian’s Equality and Children’s Rights Impact Assessment (ECRIA) process and tools. 

What participants will gain from the session 

By the end of the training, participants will be able to: 

  • Understand NHS Lothian’s equality and children’s rights obligations and why they are important to healthcare. 
  • Make decisions about whether an ECRIA is required
  • Identify effective ways to collect equality evidence, including public engagement
  • Carry out an assessment of the impact of a proposed policy or practice on ‘equality’ for protected groups and on children’s rights.
  • Use the results of an ECRIA to inform decision-making
  • Recognise common institutional barriers to inclusive healthcare. 
  • Access information about further learning and resources
