Services with Waiting Times

Staff Psychology – Specialist Services

We are a team  of from NHS Lothian Psychology department offering a service for anyone that is employed by NHS Lothian, a Lothian Health and Social Care Partnership or an independent care home / organisation in Lothian.

Please note, it is not available to students (including student nurses, student midwives, undergraduate medical students, etc) who are eligible for support through their institutional organisation.

What For?


​Short-term, evidence-based psychological therapy for a  range of mental health difficulties, such as anxiety, low mood and responses to trauma.

An assessment or triage appointment is provided before a place can be offered on the therapy waiting list.

Sessions are offered by telephone, video call (Attend Anywhere) or face to face at a limited number of locations. Most appointments last around 50 minutes

How?


Via referral from the following routes

  • Following a Here 4 U helpline call with one of our team
  • Self referring to the Staff Counselling and Psychological Support Services
  • Referral from your GP or mental health team

When?


Whenever ongoing support is deemed appropriate via referrer or through triage assessment.

Staff Counselling Service

We are a team of qualified independent accredited counsellors/therapists for all NHS Lothian staff , including GP’s and their practice staff,  with a common  mental health problem.

What For?


Counselling offers a safe and non judgemental space to process what is affecting you in life; and work with the intention of finding options to move forward.

Short term counselling of 6 x 50 minute sessions face to face , online or over the telephone over a period of time agreed to suit individual needs between the  staff member and their counsellor

Phone lines are operational Monday to Friday 8:30 – 15:45.

When?


Whenever an individual feels that some support to talk through and reflect on issues or pressures that are troubling or impacting their wellbeing.

Physiotherapy Service

We are a team of Physiotherapists specialising in Occupational Health and Musculoskeletal (MSK)  issues for all NHS Lothian staff , including GP’s and their practise staff,  with MSK conditions that impact on their ability to do their work.

What For?


Assessment ,treatment , Health promotion and prevention of MSK conditions. Work related advice including return to work support ,  ergonomic workplace assessments and recommendations.

Telephone advice service . Confidential assessment , treatment, and rehabilitation provided. Where workplace intervention is required , a report is provided to the manager .

When?


Whenever an MSK condition is impacting an employees ability to undertake work activity either off sick or still at work .
