*Important Please Note***

At the start of the pandemic the NMC introduced  the Emergency Standards for Nursing and Midwifery Education. With the pandemic continuing  the NMC will be phasing out the majority of the emergency standards on 30 September 2020 to support students returning to their normal studies and supernumerary placements.

In response to this, from 30th September 2020, there will be additional resources available to support practice assessor and practice supervisor preparation. If you have prepared prior to 30th September 2020 we recommend that you  re-visit this page regularly as it will be updated as more resources become available

The NMC have identified a number of emergency programme standards which will be retained, or slightly modified, as recovery standards.

Update from the NMC 14th January 2021

Following careful consideration by the NMC and after listening to the views of the UK’s Chief Nursing Officers, the Council of Deans of Health, and other partners, we’ve reviewed the Secretary of State’s request and agreed to reintroduce emergency education standards for final year nursing students.

We’ve also agreed to introduce two additional emergency standards relating to first year nursing and midwifery students and supervision and assessment in practice, following advice from the service and AEIs about some of the difficulties they are facing in supporting student clinical placements
